About Little Lobbyists Family Alliance
Little Lobbyists Family Alliance is a family-led 501(c)(3) organization advocating for children with complex medical needs and disabilities. Our work focuses on access to health care, education, and integration for disabled kids, empowering families to build community together and advocate for systemic change while amplifying their stories to normalize disability in public narratives. Little Lobbyists operates nationally, with much of its federal advocacy work based in Washington, D.C., and prioritizes engagement with historically excluded communities, including BIPOC and LGBTQ+ families, those who experience income inequality, and/or live in rural regions.
Job Overview
The Community Engagement Associate will play a dual role: supporting operational needs, including administrative tasks and calendaring, and contributing to strategy development, narrative work, and outreach to families. This position requires a dynamic professional who is equally excited about logistics as they are about advancing Little Lobbyists’ mission to mobilize families, build community, and shape equitable narratives around disability.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative, values-driven environment, enjoys working closely with families directly impacted, and is eager to contribute to effective narrative-building strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Administrative and Logistical Support
Manage and coordinate scheduling and calendaring for organizational activities, meetings, and events.
Provide administrative support, including managing correspondence, preparing meeting materials, and handling expense reporting.
Ensure smooth internal communications by organizing team workflows and maintaining shared platforms (e.g., Google Workspace, Slack).
Assist with event planning, logistics, and coordination of both virtual and in-person engagements.
Community Engagement
Conduct proactive outreach to families of kids with complex medical needs and disabilities, providing information about Little Lobbyists programs and opportunities for involvement.
Serve as a point of contact for families, providing resources and practical support to facilitate family engagement in program activities.
Foster meaningful connections and strengthen partnerships within the broader disability community.
Support the growth of the Little Lobbyists State Ambassador Program, helping identify, train, and onboard families as advocates in their local communities.
Facilitate workshops and learning opportunities to support families with advocacy tools and knowledge of disability civil rights history, programs, and policies.
Narrative Building and Strategy Development
Work with the Executive Director and colleagues to align engagement and narrative-building activities with Little Lobbyists’ ongoing and long-term goals.
Assist in the development of content that centers family stories, such as family/child profiles, blog posts, editorials, and social media content.
Collaborate with the team to ensure communications reflect Little Lobbyists’ mission and values, reinforce brand awareness and continuity, including best practices for accessibility and inclusion.
Participate in developing strategies for narrative campaigns that challenge ableism and amplify the voices of families with children with disabilities.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Demonstrated commitment to disability justice, equity, and inclusion.
At least 3 years of relevant experience in community engagement, communications, grassroots organizing, and/or advocacy.
Exceptional organizational skills, including balancing multiple priorities such as managing calendars, coordinating events, and communicating pertinent information in a timely manner.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for both internal and public purposes.
Familiarity with the lived experiences of families navigating disability and/or complex medical needs.
Proficiency in virtual collaboration tools such as Zoom, Google Workspace, and messaging apps.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working on narrative campaigns or storytelling initiatives.
Understanding of anti-ableism frameworks and intersectional justice principles.
Ability to develop and facilitate workshops or learning spaces for diverse audiences.
Work Environment
This position is full-time (expected 40-45 hours a week) and remote. Some travel may be required for organizational events or community engagements. Little Lobbyists will make reasonable accommodations to ensure accessibility and support for all staff.

Please submit your resume, a cover letter detailing your interest in the position, a writing sample (500-750 words) showcasing your experience in outreach, storytelling, and/or narrative-building, and links to public social media profiles. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
