Little Lobbyists Celebrate the Supreme Court Ruling Upholding the Affordable Care Act (ACA)
This morning’s ruling by the Supreme Court upholding the Affordable Care Act is a victory for our children with complex medical needs and disabilities and for all Americans.
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) has saved and improved the lives of our children with complex medical needs and disabilities with its ban on annual/lifetime limits on care, protection against discrimination for those with pre-existing conditions, and coverage for essential health benefits, amongst many other provisions. It expanded Medicaid providing health care for people who need it, including those with disabilities. It also gave Americans without employer-sponsored insurance – including millions who lost their jobs and insurance as a result of the COVID pandemic – the ability to access health insurance to protect their families’ well-being.
Little Lobbyists family-led advocacy began in 2017 to protect our children with complex medical needs and disabilities’ right to survive and thrive in their homes and communities against protracted, and multifaceted Republican threats to the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
Today’s ruling finally ends the prior administration’s campaign of health care destruction and the years of fear and uncertainty our families have endured. This important step on the road to health care justice affirms that health care is a human right in our country. As we celebrate this victory, we look forward to building on the successes of the Affordable Care Act, to finally make health care accessible for all Americans.
