Freddie

Age 6 months, Texas

Meet Freddie. Freddie loves to explore the world with his hands and listen to music and voices — especially his big brother, Charlie’s. He has a huge smile, one grin can brighten any room. Freddie was born with multiple neurological and craniofacial midline anomalies, including polymicrogyria, septo-optic dysplasia, and mega cisterna magna. He needs multiple medications for epilepsy and hormonal deficiencies, and uses a feeding tube for nutrition.

Freddie’s mom Christina says: "Freddie is on his dad’s work insurance, but even with insurance Freddie's medical costs have put us in debt. I’ve put Freddie on a couple of the Medicaid waiver wait lists — whichever he qualified for. Last time I checked, he had an approximately 16-year wait for one and a 7-year wait for the other. It is blatantly obvious to us now — as it always was — that health care should NOT be a for-profit industry. Medicaid for All would be a LITERAL LIFESAVER for so many Americans, and it would save so many more from lifelong debt and bankruptcy. Health Care should not be a luxury for the rich. No one should be driven to tears trying to figure out how to pay for their child’s medications. ”
